Entrepreneur Network Event to Focus on Small Business's Role in Job Creation

February 18, 2011

ROCK HILLóYork Technical College will host its next Entrepreneur Network session on Tuesday, February 22, at 6 p.m. at The Hive (157 E. Main Street, Suite 300, Rock Hill).

Stephen Turner, Director of Economic and Urban Development for the City of Rock Hill, will be the speaker. His topic will be "The Role of Small Businesses in Job Creation: What that Suggests about Economic Development in Rock Hill."

Economic development success is most often associated with the announcement of a major relocation or expansion by a very large business enterprise like Boeing, Google, or BMW. So it's not surprising that most communities focus on attracting businesses and jobs from outside as their primary economic development strategy. But is this the best strategy for creating new jobs?

Turnerís presentation will examine the role of small businesses in job creation locally, regionally, and nationally, and question whether current economic development strategies are targeted appropriately.

Small business owners and others interested in our local economy are invited to attend. The event is free, but attendees are asked to RSVP to enrsvp@yorktech.edu. For more information about the Entrepreneur Network, visit http://www.yorktech.edu/EN/events.html.
