York Technical College Announces
Small Tuition Increase for the Fall Semester
June 30, 2010
ROCK HILL—York Technical College officials have announced a tuition increase of $6 per credit hour for the fall semester. When the new academic year begins on August 18, in-county tuition will increase to $140 per credit hour or $1,680 per semester for full-time students. Fees for the fall will remain at their current levels.
York Technical College President Dr. Greg Rutherford said the increase was necessary to maintain services for a record number of students following years of reduced funding from the state.
“York Technical College is the fastest growing public college in South Carolina over the past five years,” said Rutherford. “Even as the number of students enrolled in our credit programs continues to increase, the college’s funding from the state over the past 4 years has been cut by more than $3 million, or about 38 percent.”
The announced tuition increase is below the cap set by the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education for the state’s 16 technical colleges.
Spring enrollment at York Technical College increased by 17 percent from a year ago and enrollment since the 2005-2006 academic year has jumped by more than 43 percent.
