York Tech Announces Remaining New Summer Camps at the Hive

ROCK HILL, SC  York Technical College has finalized the list of innovation summer camps it will be hosting throughout the Summer. The camps, held at the Hive, are open to students from 4th-12th grade, and will offer an exploratory learning experience for participants to indulge in the world of technology.

As a part of the State’s recent efforts to support and grow an innovative, technology-based and entrepreneurial business environment, these camps stemmed from the 250,000 Innovation Grant awarded by the State.

“We are trying to increase students’ interest in information technology,” said Edie Dille, associate dean of information technology. “By increasing awareness and interest at a younger age, we are hopeful of increasing the number of students who choose the discipline when they get to college or a university. “

According to a Harris Interactive study commissioned by Microsoft , more than 50 percent of students who pursued STEM professions or college majors were influenced by a class or teacher at an earlier age. These camps are built to do just that - influence. The College wants to encourage students to challenge themselves and build a genuine interest in the STEM fields by making them think hard while having fun at the same time.

While majority of the camps are free, some may have a fee attached to cover materials. There are limited spots available and people are encouraged to register as early as possible. To view a listing of the campus and more information click here.
