Clemson University and York Technical College Offer Two New Scholarship Opportunities For York Tech Students Pursuing Studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics This Fall Application Deadline is August 16th

ROCK HILLThe York Technical College Foundation is pleased to announce two new scholarship programs to aid incoming and current York Tech students pursuing an education in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program this fall. The STEM Success Scholarship and the Tools for Success Scholarship offer an opportunity for students enrolled in qualifying programs to apply for scholarship funding to assist them with their educational pursuits.

The STEM Success Scholarship and the Tools for Success Scholarship are a result of a partnership between York Technical College, Clemson University’s Center for Workforce Development, and Duke Energy.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The STEM Success Scholarship is a $500 scholarship to promote success in select S.T.E.M. programs, and the award may be used for tuition and/or textbooks during the fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters.

Eligibility

  • Continuously enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in one of the following academic programs:
    • Associate in Science (AS.SCIEN)
    • Machine Tool Technology (AAS.GT.GTMTT or DAS.MTT)
    • Engineering Transfer (AAS.GET.ELCOM, AAS.GET.EGRTR, or AAS.GET.MECH)
    • Industrial Maintenance Technology (AAS.IMT04)
  • New student –cumulative 2.5 GPA for last school attended; Returning student - minimum program GPA of 2.5
  • Demonstrated financial need with a completed FAFSA by August 15, 2013
  • Registered for fall term by August 15, 2013
  • Priority consideration given to first-year students, first-generation college student, GED recipients, home-schooled students, and students from traditionally disadvantaged and/or under-represented populations.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Complete the online application at yorktech.academicworks.com which includes a 250 word essay on “Why I’ve chosen to pursue a STEM field and how this scholarship will support my success in STEM” and one letter of recommendation from an instructor, high school guidance counselor or principal.

The Tools for Success Scholarship is a toolbox (valued at $350) available to students enrolled in a Machine Tool Technology program at York Technical College. The toolbox includes all required tools for successful completion of the Machine Tool Technology program.

Eligibility

  • Continuously enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in Machine Tool Technology (AAS.GT.GTMTT, DAS.MTT or CT.ACNC)
  • Returning student - minimum program GPA of 2.5
  • Registered for fall term by August 15, 2013
  • Priority consideration given to first-year students, first-generation college student, GED recipients, home-schooled students, and students from traditionally disadvantaged and/or under-represented populations.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Complete the online application at yorktech.academicworks.com which includes a 250 word essay on “What is NIMS Certification and why is it important in my pursuit of Machine Tool Technology” and one letter of recommendation from an instructor, high school guidance counselor or principal.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
August 16, 2013

Applicants for either scholarship must complete the online application at yorktech.academicworks.com. The application will open Tuesday, August 6 and will close at 12 noon on August 16.

First-year students, first-generation college student, GED recipients, home-schooled students, and students from traditionally disadvantaged and/or under-represented populations are strongly encouraged to apply.
